INX-18 and INX-19 play distinct roles in electrical synapses that modulate aversive behavior
Electrical synapses are critical for fast neural communication. This paper elucidates the distinct functional roles of innexin proteins INX-18 and INX-19 in forming gap junctions that modulate aversive behavioral responses in Caenorhabditis elegans, contributing to our understanding of the genetic basis of behavior.
Notes
Wet-lab genetics on how neurons pass signals to each other electrically, rather than chemically — which gap-junction proteins wire which connections, and what changes in an animal’s behaviour when you take one away.
It sits on this site as evidence rather than as a headline. The thesis running through everything here is signal: measuring one, reading one, deciding what it means. This is where that started literally, in a nervous system you can count the cells of.
